Experiencing “America’s Favorite Drive”

A drive down the Blue Ridge Parkway is a slow paced, relaxing, drive-awhile and stop-awhile experience, rewarding the traveler with stunning long-range vistas and close-up looks at our southern Appalachian Mountains. The Parkway meanders for 469 miles between Shenandoah and Great Smoky Mountains National Parks, providing numerous opportunities for enjoying overlooks, picnic and camping facilities, trails, historic sites and the natural wonders of our region.

Places to Visit

Developed areas at regular intervals along the Parkway each carry a distinct personality, highlighting the natural or cultural history of the region. Although short walks or stops at these various locations will give visitors an up- close view, springtime blooms or magnificent vistas can be enjoyed from behind the wheel of your vehicle. Enjoy the view, but watch the road!

Food and Lodging

Four lodges and six restaurants are scattered along the Parkway and open from spring through the fall color season.  Visit the many adjacent communities to experience regional hospitality and cuisine.  Picnicking at developed areas or on the roadside are always  popular options.
